Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Naughton is more than happy to fill in at left back in the wake of Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s injury.
The Cameroonian left back has been ruled out for four weeks after suffering a knee injury and missed the game at the Madejski Stadium in the 1-3 victory against Reading.
Tottenham had been waiting on an update on the player, and fear losing him out for more than a month. Losing the reliable left-back has dealt a huge blow to the club’s hope of building on their first Premier League win of the season, and also presents problems
in the Carling Cup and Europa League.
Assou-Ekotto had barely missed a game in his last four seasons at the club and has been an ever reliable presence on the left flank. At the moment, Spurs only have http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kyle-Naughton-c21563 to fill in for the injured full back, and will be hoping for the youngster to
step up and perform as well as he did last week against Reading.
The youngster is ready to fill the void and is excited to start at the left against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 on Thursday night’s Europa League fixture. The player is naturally not a left back, but impressed in the position as he made his full league debut for the club against
Reading.
This match is the first competitive meeting between both clubs, and manager Andre Villas-Boas had challenged his side to go for the win as he targets the Europa title.
Naughton hopes to impress the manager again and help his side to a victory. Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:
''It was great to get the three points and that the gaffer gave me a chance to show what I can do. I played at left-back a few times for Norwich on loan last season and hopefully now I can carry on playing.”
''Towards the end, I was tiring a little and they got in behind us a little but the more games I play, hopefully the stronger I'll get.”
''Everyone's been brilliant and I just hope I can carry on now and play in the Europa League.''
