Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us tops US sales in June – Gaming News
Naughty Dog’s action-adventure, survival-horror video game The Last of Us is revealed to be the top performer in terms of sales in the US during the month of June.
According to the data released by NPD Group, the post-apocalyptic game comfortably outperform all other video games for different platforms during the month.
While the exact sales figures for The Last of US was not revealed, Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz is of the opinion that the game has sold somewhere around 700,000 units during June.
According to analyst Liam Callahan, this is the second-best first-month sales figures for a PlayStation 3 first-party title, with God of War 3 having the best sales figures during its first month of release in March 2010.
"The Last of Us was the top selling game at retail in the month of June. To put this in context, it had the second highest first-month sales of a PS3 first-party game, after God of War 3 in March 2010," Callahan said. "The Last of Us was also the third highest game to launch during the month of June since NPD began tracking sales in 1995."
Published by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) and released exclusively for Sony’s current-generation console during June 2013, The Last of Us has the players take control of the main protagonist Joel, who is escorting Ellie through across a post-apocalyptic US in 2033. His aim is to get her to a friendly resistance group named the Fireflies, who are convinced that Ellie is the key to curing an infection that has ravaged the planet.
The game is being described as one of the most gripping, entertaining and moving experience in the history of video games. Various publications have showered the game with praises in their reviews and given it perfect scores, stating that The Last of Us is as perfect as a video game can get.
While The Last of Us topped US sales in June, Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the 3DS was the second-best seller. Microsoft’s Minecraft for the Xbox 360 had the third-highest sales, whereas Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Take-Two Interactive’s NBA 2K13 for multiple platforms rounded-out the top-five best-sellers for the month.
