Question:

Naval Piercings, Tattoos- the complication: I lifeguard.?

I lifeguard as my soul income so I can't just take off or work for more than a couple days. I have been working at the facility for almost two years and there hasn't been the need for a rescue so there is little risk of me getting into the water and having to do physical labor, however if it is required what would that type of activity do to the piercing?

I am also thinking about getting a tattoo. Preferably on my lower back behind my right hip. How bad will it hurt? (I know it varies but give me an estimate) The tattoo will be of a small rose with some sort of tribal design behind/around it.

Thanks to all those who respond~

ps. How do I get my mom to understand that I really really want these? I will be 18 in a few months.

Thanks

~J~

  1. new piercings and new tattoos cannot go into salt water for at lest a few weeks

youll get infection or color will comeout of your tat if its not healed

  2. "USDA grade 1 choice" is possibly the worst idea for a tattoo that I've heard of.

You wanted to be 'old cow' didn't you?

On the other hand, the piercing should be fine, if you clean it properly. Depending if you lifeguard pools or beachs... Salt water at the beach is really good for wounds.

  3. ITS GOING 2 HURT OBVIOUSLY...BUT IT REALLY DEPENDS ON HOW HIGH OR LOW YOUR TOLERANCE OF PAIN IS.

I HAV 3 TATTS, THE 1 ON MY WRIST (2 BIG WATER LILLIES) BARELY HURT BUT MY BFF GOT HER MOTHERS NAME & SHE WAS IN TEARS...EVERYONE IS DIFF...I CAN TOLERATE PAIN VERY WELL.

BUT THE LOWER BACK IS KIND OF INTENSE BUT NOT TO BADD.

AS 4 THE NAVAL RING, JUST CLEAN IT ON THE REGULAR AND AVOID 2 MANY CLOTHES RUNBBING AGAINST IT.

BUT SINCE U LIFEGUARD THE WATER & SUN CUD REALLY IRRITATE THE TATTOO...

& I HIGHLY DOUBT YOUR MOTHER WILL UNDERSTAND!!

BEEN THERE DONE THAT...I HAV 21 PIERCINGS AND MY MOM DOESNT LIKE ANY OF THEM!!

    GOOD LUCK THOUGH!! =]

  4. In no way should you ever be in a pool with a new piercing or tattoo. Don't even take the risk. You need to wait until that isn't your job or you can take awhile off from work (2-3 weeks for a tattoo, anywhere from 2-12 months for various piercings) before getting a tattoo or piercing. Pools are filled with bacteria, chlorine, and other harmful chemicals that aren't good for open wounds like piercings and tattoos. It's basically like asking for an infection and probably losing color on a tattoo.

And there is no way to tell you how bad it will hurt. Everyone is different, there is no estimation.

If your mom doesn't like tattoos or agree with tattoos...generally there isn't a way to get her to understand. Sit down and talk to her, explain why you want them and be mature about it. But coming from someone with a good amount of piercings and tattoos who has a mother that hates both, it is really hard for them to understand. I basically just had to sit my mom down and tell her that I knew she'd never understand nor do I expect her to but to just please respect my decisions.

  5. piercing I wouldn't be as worried about as long as its not a long exposer to the water and you clean it asap your piercing should be fine. the tattoo on the other hand is another story. pain wise I've had people fall asleep and others shake and cry but most say it uncomfortable. the water on the other hand is bad burning and infection can happen easy. maybe if you get a long weekend( 3 days off in a row) and you get it right after work on the night before your long wkend. your body will have a chance to build a protective layer over your tattoo and infection will be less likely.

  6. Think about it.  I am late 50's and have the meat stamp on my rear because I wanted a tattoo.  "USDA Grade A Choice"  really you are fine without one!
