So, it seems that the carte orange has now been replace with the carte navigo. Question is, do I have to wait until I get to paris to buy one, or can I order one online before I travel?

  1. The Carte Orange isn't dead yet. You can still get the coupon at most of the stations, although the number that do is being cut down every month.

  2. I'm assuming that you are coming to Paris on a visit ...you'll be needing what they call a "Le passe Navigo Découverte" - you can get on the spot from RATP ticket counters. It costs 5€.......don't forget to have a photo with you.

The other pass "Navigo" is for people who reside in the Paris and its suburbs (aka : "Ile de France") This one can be ordered on-line because it is sent to the person's home.
