Navistar LPGA Classic 2012 : Lexi Thompson maintains lead in second round
American Lexi Thompson has maintained her lead in the second round of the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012 as she fired a 69 on Friday, bringing her overall score to a solid 132 on the leaderboard.
Lexi, who is defending her title at the ongoing Navistar LPGA Classic 2012 being played at Prattville, Alabama, kicked off the tournament with heaps of enthusiasm as she has already vowed to impress her fans
once again.
The first round of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament saw the American star shoot an explosive 63, strengthening her position on the leaderboard. She was able to keep her momentum
going in the second round as well.
Thanks to her solid strategy and aspiration to remain unbeatable in her most favourite tournament, Thompson kept the pressure intact on her rivals, making the most of the course and field.
Starting on the 10th hole, Lexi did not let her nerves derail her as she made perfect strokes on the fairways and the greens. She shot a birdie on the par-4 11th and then parred the
next four holes in a row.
On the 16th hole, the LPGA titan drained her second birdie, further tightening the noose on her nearest rivals.
Commentators said that Thompson’s confidence was unmatched in the first two rounds and she has consolidated her position early in the tournament. They said that the next two rounds will be even more crucial
for the American golfer as she is being trailed by South Korean M.J. Hur and American Mindy Kim who have posted an overall 133 each.
Speaking to the media at the end of the second round, Thompson said she is happy to have grabbed an early lead and will try her best to do the same in the final two rounds.
The second-round leader said that it was consistency that helped her rise to the top of the leaderboard in the first two rounds. “I played pretty consistent, hit a few squirrely iron shots that I wasn't happy
with, but overall I played consistent,” she shared.
When asked what she has planned for the final rounds, Thompson said:  “Same thoughts, just going into every shot confidently and every round and hope for the best.  I mean, the afternoon wave still has to
go off.  No matter what I end up at the end of the day, I'm still going to go in with the same attitude”.
