Navistar LPGA Classic 2012: Stacy Lewis says course is "good"
American Stacy Lewis, who walked all over her rivals at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2102, said the course at Prattville “is good” as it made hitting much easier this time, but the greens were a bit troublesome.
Speaking during the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament, staged last week at Prattville, Alabama, United States, Lewis said that she liked playing at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Capitol
Hill, as the course offered plenty of challenges, which helped her stay focused on her game throughout the four days.
The American star is best known for her strong hitting, but over the past few months, she has gradually morphed into a fearsome hitter who is capable of dealing with tough course conditions on the fairways
and the greens.
Lewis pointed out that the length of the course has gone through some changes over the year as it is now much easier to manoeuvre the ball. However, she said the greens proved a bit tougher this year as it
was hard making calculated putts due to some tricky holes.
“I feel like a course like this you have to hit it well and then make the putts. These greens are really ‑‑ you can kind of break them up into three, four different sections, and kind of the same thing in
Mobile too, I guess,” the LPGA titan said at the end of the third round that saw her shoot an massive 65.
When asked what was her strategy for the putting greens at the 2012 Navistar LPGA Classic, Lewis said that she did not let her nerves and psychological pressure overcome her, despite the toughness of the course,
and made as strong hits as she could so that she would not have to make much effort on the greens.
“The greens may be big, but they're really pretty small so I think that's to my advantage. I usually hit it pretty solid, and then just making putts, I think that gives me an advantage on any course,” she
shared.
Apparently, fairways have always been important for world number two, but she did fine on almost all the holes. “I don't know if I hit it that far on this course”.
