  1. The air force has bases in Spain and Italy.  And there are a lot of air force bases in California.

After air force basic training, you will basically have a job.  Your job may be going to school full time, or you may be assigned to a career field with on-the-job-training (OJT).  You will probably work about 40 hours a week, with some shift work, depending on the career field.   There will be military aspects to everything you do, mainly in that your superiors will generally be those who outrank you in your career field.  There will also be military type things, like marching, inspections of barracks and uniforms, although they will be infrequent following basic training.  The main difference between this and a civilian job, is that you cannot quit, you cannot come in to work late, and you cannot argue with your boss.  All those things will lead to disciplinary action.

Don't know much about the Navy or Army, but someone else will fill you in there, I'm sure.

  2. The Navy has a base down in Southern Italy [La Modd], and five bases in Napoli, and one in Gaeta.

The Army has one base in Northern Italy.
