  1. umm.. MY mother was about 5 foot five and my father is about 5'10"

I assure you most of the the HMsare NOT six feet tall.

the only areas that have height requirements are the Old Guard and the Ceremonial Units

  2. I just got out of the Navy last summer after 6 years and was a FMF Corpsman with First Marine Division. I am 5'5" and 130 lbs. As long as you meet Navy standards you'll be fine. Of course, every year you will be assessed on your physical condition (physical test plus height/weight).

    Excerpt taken from http://www.navycs.com/navyheightweightch...

"Applicants not meeting the Navy weight standard for their height will be measured for body fat percentage. Male applicants measured at 22 percent body fat or less (23% for male applicants 40 years of age or older) may enter the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) and ship to Recruit Training Command regardless of their weight. Female applicants measured at 33 percent body fat or less (34% for female applicants 40 years of age or older) may DEP and ship to Recruit Training Command regardless of their weight. Body Fat measurements are performed according to the instructions contained in  OPNAV Instruction 6110.1H - PHYSICAL READINESS PROGRAM"

    OPNAV Instruction 6110.1H:

In my experience, which included 2 complete training work ups for 2 separate deployments to Iraq (2003 & 2004-2005), Marines respect their Corpsman not necessarily just for their medical knowledge but primarily if they are able to withstand all of the intense physical training (20+ mile hikes w/ 75 +lbs). No matter how small, big or out of shape you may look as long as you can hack it you should be fine (just stay within height/weight regulations).

You will go to bootcamp and then Corps School. In Corps School you will be given orders either to a naval hospital, ship or FMF. If you go FMF you will go to what's called FMSS, which is essentially a combat medicine course. No where during this time do they "screen" for the most physically fit applicants for FMF. Seems as if they take volunteers and pull names at random for orders to the Marines.

    Good Luck!

  3. OORAH KILL!

Like HM2 said earlier to my post; just as long as you can do what your marines do, respect them, and take care of them, you're set. No height requirement needed!

    I'm a FMF Corpsman, and I'm 5'2 weighing 130 lbs.

  4. You must comply with USMC height weight standards and meet the USMC PFT requirements.

  5. I'm 5'1" and I am a former HM...I was a navy corpsman for 14 years.

    The height standard is:

    5' for males

    4' 10" for females

it is the same for all the rest of the Navy.

Note: You do not have to meet USMC standards...unless you get orders with the Marines (and you choose to go Marine standards)...Corpsmen are NAVY first....I was Navy standards and took the Navy fitness tests... A lot of FMF corpsmen stay Navy standards. I joined the Navy not the Marines. (I did not go FMF)
