  1. well, first of all if you're in the navy there is a very good chance you'll be on a boat.  If you get sea sickness, pick the Air Force.  I say Air Force will be the best for the family because Airmen can work at any of the Air Force bases full time... unless you are a pilot or a Spec Ops PJ there is little chance you will be deployed overseas.  In the navy you could be deployed for 9 months at a time on a boat to the Persian Gulf.  i would choose the Air Force if you were thinking of family first.

    so pretty much.....

Air Force: Work in the states, keep attending college, stay with fiance.

Navy: Work on a boat, get deployed and be away from your fiance 9 months out of the year.  have to suspend college while your deployments.

    (pick the Air Force)

  2. Being prior Air Force for 10 yrs, and twice being stationed near a navlal base, and having alot of contact with people in the navy and there families, I would say, hands down it's the USAF.  the Navy spends to much time at sea for a typical enlisted man who also desires a family, also the Af treats there people far better, the rank is not so much for authority as it is for your technical skills in the AF.  Sailors have all kinds of crazy schedules to work, 4-12 hr days 3 off then 2-16s, then a day off, then 6 -8  night shift hr days, then  who knows what.  AF it wa pretty much 7:30-4:30  5 days a week.  I went Tdy (deployments) often as a Supply clerk attached to fighter maintance units, some good ones, no bad ones, some most excellent (Norway and Germany where to d**n fun!).   Navy life is hard until your E-7, which takes awhile from E-1 ( 12 yrs or more).  in the AF from E-1 s all fine, no  one getting in your face (after basic training),  and your viewed more by your skillls than the stripes on your sleeves.  family time is constant, unless deployed or having  Exercises ( war games) of course,   Some people never deploy, check with the recruiter to see if your job is ne that subjects you to deployments or TDYs (temp duty depolyments), one that involve working on , or with the flight line personel are more deployable, as well as security police and Hospital.   housing is better by far, and even barrack housing is superior (single AF  2 to a  motel like room until E-5, then one person per room, navy has 6 per room under E4, then 4, yo dont get your own room till e-7).  Big differance between branches, I don't know any AF guys who ever wished they had signed up for the Navy, yet knew tons of navy guys who where in a constant state of envy on the AF way of life (all for the same pay also), Aii HIgh! Air force!

  3. NAVY

Seasick: You hardly feel it on the big boats.

Family: My husband loves being a Navy husband (I know, different.) There are alot of different sources to help out you and your family.

Duty stations: You can also be stationed on a base full time. You more than likely be attatched to a ship, but they have to dock somewhere and at that time it's a regular 9-5 practically. All branches run the risk of being stationed overseas, but in the Navy, married on your first term has a less likely chance of moving to another country.

Deployments: You will get to see a lot of the world for 6 months at a time.

College: You can still take college courses and we even have an office dedicated solely to continuing your education. While we're deployed there are even a few classes you can take on your ship.

Weigh all your options. Read unbiased facts and make a decision that way. I'm going to tell you Navy just like the guy before said Air Force. :)

  4. The Air Force would probably be better for family, that is true.  However, go in to it with your eyes open; Airmen are deploying quite a bit these days, not only pilots and PJs, but security forces, support personnel, etc.  In either service, there are family-friendly career fields, and  those that are not, but overall, as an Air Force pilot, I am still happily married to my wife of 16 years and we have four great kids, in spite of spending over 2 years (cumulative) away from home, and we have loved our Air Force life.  We have lived all over the states, and also Asia, and have loved it.  Good luck in your decision, and your future life with your fiance.

  5. Hmm... Ok, I'm biased because I'm in the Air Force...

Stacked like sardines on a ship?

Nice big bed in a hotel?

I've never heard an airman say that he should have joined the Navy, but I've heard countless sailors they should have/tried to get into the Air Force.

If the Air Force offers better quality of life for you and your fiance...  And will accept you, unless you are extremely passionate about the Navy, I would go into the Air Force.

  6. Both are great branches. The Navy you'll do tours on a boat more than likely. Therefore leaving your family behind for a while. Living conditions are about the same really both having really nice housing. As for deployments go, so far none of these people know the honest truth. Both branches see deployment, your MOS will not protect you from deployments. Anything is possible right now generally speaking a secretary won't see combat. The war in Iraq is dying and Afghanistan troops are increasing. The Navy will probably see less deployments to a war zone for the record. For the family I would probably say Air Force because you don't have to leave them for tours.
