  1. As a Navy Vet I'd recomend it over the other branches but it depends on what he plans on getting out of the experiance. If you have any specific questions, update you question.

  2. Is he the type that can take a lot of guff from others without going off then kicks some major butt or is he the type that takes things the anyone dishes out and is not violent.

In the Marines, you have to do what you're told when you're told and faster than humanly possible and you don't go off on your own people until you get into hand to hand combat.

The Navy (although a great branch of the military) is a little laid back and not a physical as the Marines.

Either is a great idea but the Marines is a bit tougher than the Navy.  He can't go wrong with either.

I know this doesn't help much but if he gung-hoe and he really wants to kick some butt then the Marines is for him.  The Navy is usually the ones that picks up the pieces after a Marine gets finished.

As apposed to your first answer, the Marines is a part of the Navy but they don't answer to the Navy.  The Marines gets it's orders from the president himself.  No other branch can say that and it's the Marine Band that plays at all presidential functions and who is it that you see guarding the White House and the presidential plane?  Marine Corps.  The Marines do NOT use Navy equipment.  The Marines have all their own equipment except battle ships and Aircraft Carriers.

  3. You can read here. This will explain the basics about each branch and it is honest information.
