Is the pay figure shown on navy pay charts the base pay for the wohle month or do you get this much every two weeks?

I'm referring to the pay chart on: http://www.navytimes.com/projects/money/pay_charts/2008/basic/0_20/

  1. Per month.

But remember that in the Navy there exist many other pays that you can get as well.

Also keep in mind that not everyone pays income taxes. and the other deductions can be whittled down as well.

Do you truly NEED $100,000 of life insurance? for example. If not then stop SGLI.

    Base pay,

    sea pay,

    career sea pay,

    sea pay kicker,

    sub pay,

    career sub pay,

    BAH,

    COLA,

    VHA,

    BAS,

    Female Seperation Pay,

    Pro pay,

    and SRB installments.

During the last 15 years of my 20 year career, I averaged around $65,0000 each year tax free.

And I attended college courses while doing it.

    Good luck :)

  2. The Basic Pay is PER MONTH not per paycheck, it is also before deductions such as FICA, State Income Tax, Medicare, Social Security, SGLI, etc....

Just remember that the pay isn't every 2 weeks, if it was that then there would be 26 paydays per year.  The pay is on the 15th and 1st of each month.  When the 15th falls on a weekend or a holiday monday it can almost be 3 weeks between paydays so budget for it.

Edited:  ET1 the SGLI is now 450K (max) and is $29 per month, you cannot usually get rates like this outside the military.  Also no longer is there VHA & BAH it is only BAH.   Plus it isn't Female Separation Pay (maybe for you it felt like it) but Family Separation which is only if you are married and gone for longer than 30 days.  And if the AD member is Female, submarines are not an option.  sometimes SRB's are not there either, not every rate gets one.

  3. pay charts list MONTHLY base pay.

  4. That is a monthly salary.  If you have dependents you may qualify for additional benefits.  Ask your recruiter what you will qualify for, they know.

  5. Yes it is the entire amount for the month unless you qualify for any allowances.  Remember they provide meals, lodging and pay for your medical and dental and any training you are being given.

  6. Month.

  7. That's monthly base pay.  You may also be eligible for a number of other pays as well, such as BAS, BAH, Sea Pay, Submarine Pay, Nuke Pay, etc.
