Nayden Naydenov takes over the Bulgarian men’s volleyball team as head coach - Volleyball News
Following the dismissal of former head coach Radostin Stoychev, the men’s national volleyball team of Bulgaria has received a new mentor in the form of Nayden Naydenov.
Previously, Naydenov was attached to Bulgarian national squad as an assistant coach. However, he got a perfect opportunity to take charge of the team after Stoychev left. The National Volleyball Federation of Bulgaria has formally announced Naydenov as the
new head coach of men’s team, which will take part in the upcoming London Olympic Games.
Stoychev had issues with the federation’s Chief Dancho Lazarov. He also made it clear that only one of them was going to stay with the team. Nevertheless, Lazarov refused to leave the throne that eventually forced Stoychev to part his ways with the team.
He held a press conference this past Monday and stated, "Since there has been no resignation tabled by Dancho Lazarov so far, I confirm that I am undertaking action to end my contract as national volleyball team coach.”
Stoychev resigned after the last Olympic Qualifying match of Bulgaria on June 10. He did his job and helped the team to secure a trip to London. Bulgarian city Sofia hosted the World Olympic Qualification Tournament (WOQT) from June 8-10.
Naydenov preformed his duties as an assistant coach during the World Olympic Qualifying Tournament. After Stoychev’s departure from the team, Bulgarian Volleyball Federation considered the candidacy of Naydenov and Martin Stoev for the post of head coach.
Stoev was regarded as the former coach of Bulgarian team and he had a close competition with Naydenov for the position of head coach.
However, the Board of Bulgarian Volleyball Federation decided to pick Naydenov for the influential role of head coach. Now that Naydenov has accepted the position, he has a great responsibility on his shoulders to lead the team to success at the Olympics.
He is determined to resolve all the issues among team players and prepare them for the upcoming tough challenge. Bulgaria will open the Olympic tournament on July 29 by taking on hosts Great Britain. It will surely be a tough match, which will test the nerves
of Naydenov in the shoes of head coach. Check back for more updates and news.
