I am looking to get a Neapolitan Mastiff this year and want some information on there guarding ability. I will be getting a Female Neo to go with my Male Akita. Are the Female Neo's any good at guard work? I understand ther size and look will put off any potential burglar but how are they at guarding? Do you own a Neo? What has been your experience? Thank You.

  1. Neos are not really guard dogs anymore, They have been show bred for too long and are not used as working dogs anymore.

Perhaps if you got one from a recent italian line and the parents had guarding abilities and you temperament tested one of the pups you have a small chance.

I have had a couple of neos and they have very gentle natures and are very friendly, If primarily you want a guard dog maybe a female akita?

Get a neo because they are gorgeous not because of any old working abilities they have lost.

If you are a very good dog handler and you want the best guard dog possible then get a Fila or a caucasian ovcharka or a hungarian komondor (must be from hungarian working lines)

In Those 3 breeds i just mentioned you have the most fericous guard dogs in the world.

  2. get a cane corso, castle guard

  3. This is the sort of q uestion you should be asking the breed club.

    there is breed information here:
