Question:

Near-accidents with cars?

Over the last few days, I've been getting into a few near collisions with other drivers on the road (mostly at intersections). In one case, I just couldn't see and narrowly missed, then the other I was about to turn into a parking lot and realized there was no room to pull in with another car pulling out, so I turned off my signal and the guy pulls out and barely misses me. This may be an obvious answer, but should I just quit while I'm ahead, I've always been scared of driving and I hate being wrong but I am probably at fault. Should I just call it quits?

  1. Calling it quits will only hurt you, either drive more defensively or take a defensive driving course that will help you.

  2. don't give up... and never admit fault when it comes to a car accident.

i know you just want to say sorry, but don't. its never your fault, especially when it is your fault.

  3. The fact is this:  You need more training...more seat time.

I would suggest taking advanced driver education.

Like someone else said, give 100% of your attention to the road.  I have about 500,000 miles under my belt and you learn to "see things before they happen".

It's all due to time behind the wheel.  No one is perfect.

  4. Turn the radio off, stop yapping with others in the car.

Give your full attention to the road.

When you turned your turn signal on, the other driver believed that you would stop (or slow down) and they realized that you needed them out of the way.

That was just a plain  failure to communicate.

As for not being able to see, I have places that are blind also. So I have the windows down at those intersections because even if I can not see them, maybe I will hear them.

Don't give up, just dedicate more of your senses to driving.
