Nearest/Most accessible beach or lake to Dublin Airport?

I am going to be arriving in Dublin with a friend in June and will only be staying for 2 nights...I was thinking of skipping the average sightseeing and that maybe it would be best to just relax in a nearby beach. Would this be advisable? How's the weather like in June? If not, what are other enjoyable/relaxing things we could do to pass time while waiting for our flight

2 1/2 days later? Also, what is the closest beach (which town is it in?) to Dublin airport..also one with hostels/ cheap accommodation that my friend and I could stay in. Thanks!

I use this when I'm looking for accommodation but I've stayed in Barnacles in Temple Bar, good central location, noisy at night because of the area but nice and also a place on North Great Georges street, very basic, much quieter and off O'Connell Street which I can't remember the name of at the moment

  2. I think the nearest beach would be Dollymount Strand, which is close to Clontarf, a suburb of Dublin. You could still do a bit of sightseeing if you wanted, there are beaches very close to Dublin city centre, like Sandymount strand. Tide comes in very fast there, so be careful.

Don't ask how the weather is in June, this is IRELAND, for goodness sake, famous for having all four season in one day, or even one morning if you're particularly lucky!

  3. Hi,  Of course it is OK to relax on a beach in Dublin.  Weather is always unpredictable in Ireland, always carry a light rain jacket, no need to expect heavy rain, I shouldn't be cold, well depending where your come from, about 20 degrees Celsius.I recommend a stay in The Waterside Hotel, Donabate in Co.Dublin.  It is a beautiful hotel and practically on the beach. There is a cliff walk, entertainment at weekends in the hotel,  is a short walk to Newbridge House, where you can tour the 18 century house for about 5 euro, they also have a farm which is also a very enjoyable stroll around.  Distance from Dublin Airport is about 5 miles and would cost about 15 -20 euro.  Alternatively, the hotel has a courtesy bus which will pick you up for free.
