Nearsighted glasses?

I have about the same prescription glasses as my friend but somehow the outer edges of her glasses seem thinner. Is there a method that makes nearsighted glasses smaller? and what is it called?

  1. There are several possible reasons...

Her frame is maybe a bit smaller...so the edges will be thinner

She maybe has Hi-index lenses or Polycarbonate lenses which are thinner, and yours are regular plastic.

If you have thin lenses ( hi-index )...hers are maybe a higher grade of high index...you may have 1.56 index, she may have 1.6 index

Her eyes are maybe just more centered in her frame, ( wider between her eyes than you are)..that can also affect the edge thickness...even if the 2 frames are identical...strange as that may sound.

Sooo, you see, there are several reasons why...without seeing exactly what they both are, it is just guesses at possible reasons.

  2. I am severely nearsighted so I always get my glasses with high index lenses. It costs extra but it's worth it for me. The lenses look much thinner and my eyes don't look as small as they do with regular lenses. Another bonus is the lighter weight of the glasses. Perhaps that's what your friend has.
