Neat freak mama plz help?

I have baskets on my dresser for different things. One basket for hair clamps and pins another for makeup and another for various items. My mom is the kind of person who thinks that nothing and i mean NOTHING should be on a surfce area. She doesnt even allow the blender to stay on the kitchen counter top we have to put it away everytime we use it. Well anyways my mom throws a big fit about it and is always telling me that having stuff on the dresser is messy and that nothing should be on there. I have things on my dresser so they are easy to get to. My mother thinks i should put them away in a box so it will "look neater". Is there some sort of compromise we could come to? Is there a way to organize my dresser so i can get to my things easily and neat enough so my mom will be satisfied?

Try getting one of those organizer things with the squares in it that you can keep on the top of the dresser but still look neat.  You could even cover it with a nice handkerchief or piece of fabric if she thinks that's not enough.  I don't think an organizer should be a problem for her -- after all, it's your room.
