Nebraska Cornhuskers’ Bo Pelini apologizes
Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Bo Pelini apologized on Tuesday 23 November for his actions during his team’s loss to the Texas A&M Aggies.
In a nationally televised game, Pelini was shown yelling at referees for the duration the match. In addition, Pelini was also very aggravated with freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez, yelling at the youngster and then poking him just above the collar.
“I always believe it’s okay to disagree with a call,” Pelini told The Associated Press. “It’s not okay to make it personal. At times during that game, probably in my quest to fight for the kids on our football team, I let it get personal. For that,
once again, I’m sorry. I regret that.”
Pelini, who is well known for his sideline tirades, was particularly angry during the game against the Aggies, as his team was unable to generate any offence and ended up losing 9-6. In addition, the Cornhuskers were called for 16 penalties worth 145 yards.
Pelini grew frustrated with Martinez, as the youngster was unable to find his rhythm and then was forced out of the game with an ankle sprain. The following day Martinez did not appear, at what Pelini called the club’s ‘shakeout’, which is a jog the team
participates in on Sunday, leading many to speculate that he had left the team. Pelini would not go into details as to why he was upset with Martinez, but did dispel the rumours that the youngster had quit the club.
“My policy is I don’t talk about what happens in our family,” said Pelini. “I can say this-the things that are out there speculating over what that was [about] are completely off base. Taylor is with the football team. He and I are on the same page and there
are no issues there. We put all that behind us.”
The Cornhuskers will be back in action against the Colorado Buffaloes on Friday 26 November.
