Nebraska defeats Hawaii by 3-0 – Volleyball news
A spring exhibition match took place recently between Nebraska and Hawaii in the Hawaiian city of Maui.
The match did not take too long to reach its close as the guests were able to make a clean sweep over their opponents.
Only the first set of the match was competitive as the home team lost their motivation by losing the opening frame and putting in a half hearted effort in the second as well as the third sets. By the time that the day was done, the scoreboard showed the
following final set scores: 25-23, 25-16 and 25-15.
The coach of the Huskers squad, John Cook, expressed himself in the following manner about the match that his team won, “There were some great rallies that the crowd (of 2,800 fans) was just going crazy on. For a spring match in that environment, it was
a lot of fun to watch. I think the difference in the match was we just didn't give up runs except in the first game. (Hubl and Dykstra) have been competing this spring, and Dykstra was out for quite a while sick, so Paige earned an opportunity to start and
played great.”
The first set of the match started off with both the teams coming out strong against each other with no one sure where the tables would turn until the very end. The opening frame kept going back and forth until the guests were able to put on a spurt of speed
in the end and grab the frame at 25-23.
The loss of the first frame of the game dampened the spirits of the home team and they were not able to perform well in the second set.
As a result, the guests easily dominated the second frame and secured it at 25-16. The third set of the game followed much the same pattern as the previous one with the guests finally winning the show at 25-15.
Next in line for the Husker squad is a match against the North Dakota State that is scheduled to take place in Norfolk on April 7.
