Nebraska: is there any grace period in which to return a used vehicle if it's found to have major mechanical?

I purchased a car on Monday night and by Wednesday afternoon the transmission went completely out and left me stranded at the side of the road. The dealer asked me to have it towed back to them (which I had to pay for) and said they would inspect it for me but made no promise to repair the vehicle. In the state of Nebraska is there any grace period in which to return a vehicle if it's found to have major mechanical defects?

  1. Assume that you do not have this grace period and do realize that you should have inspected the vehicle FIRST!

Since as noted this is about 99% likely, that's probably why the dealer is offering an inspection now and that you best get ready to make lemonade and repair the car.

  2. check your warranty for details.  it is with your contract you signed

  3. No. There is no grace period for vehicle purchases.

  4. Nope. Not in Nebraska, Kansas, or anywhere else. Once you've signed the contract, it's a done deal and the sale is final. You had the opportunity to have the vehicle inspected prior to purchase. It sounds like the dealer may be willing to do something for you, but he really doesn't have to.

  5. Check your contract, 99% of all USED car contracts say "as-is" and the dealer has no responsibility to take the car back.  The exceptions are 2 states (California and Minnesota) which have car buyers laws and cases where the dealer chooses to provide a return option.
