Question:

Necessary safety features for teen driver?

I'm a new driver, and need to know which safety features to get for my car. Obviously, the more the better, but I only have about $12k to work with so which features are absolutely necessary? I can only think of airbags, and ABS brakes (it's going to be a sedan)

Thanks

  1. In that you are a new driver,  I am happy to see that this is on your mind.   However,   with a limited budget,   I would advocate spending it on value,  getting a car that will last through college without expensive repairs or the need to replace.   I would prefer to see you get through your schooling without a lot of needless debt to ruin and control your life later.

Better,   pledge to yourself to always drive like you have a brain,   stay alert and watch for developing situations so you can avoid them.     Keep plenty of following distance,  spend money on maintenance and not repair,   keep your speed down to save gas and reduce strain on the drivetrain.

  2. Airbags and ABS breaks are very important, but make sure you have keyless entry and an alarm.  Even though you going to spend 12k it is still worth getting keyless entry with an alarm.  Last but not least, look for traction control.  This feature helps to have a more controlled acceleration and will prevent fish tailing out of control.

  3. just buy a good car they all have safety features. the best safety feature is you being careful and aware of other cars around you.

  4. For $12,000 you will get airbags, abs brakes, seat-belts and maybe the tire air monitor.............

  5. excellent crash test scores

bigger car so you dont get run over and smashed

    stability control

    tire pressure monitoring system

    rear parking sensors

    head restraints

  6. With 12k you can probably go new... but almost everyone I know as a new driver has bumped their car on something. Accidently backed into a pole, too far into the garage, scrape the bottom on one of those parking lot concrete centers, scrape the sides of the tires on the curb, etc. so a used car might be less noticeable that you're a new driver. Not to mention used cars, specifically used sedans, will be easier on insurance.

I would say airbags and ABS are a must. If you live somewhere that gets snow each winter, definately put some money aside for snow tires.

  7. A good used car with anti-lock brakes, airbags that can not be turned off. A used car will give you more bang for the buck  Warranty warranty warranty
