  1. Wear the helmet, watch the pros at the sport events. They wear them even when just skiing down a slope. It's not you that is the problem, it's the rude and out of control riders of skiis or snowboards who may hit you that worry your parents.  Not all snow is soft, today the surface was frozen and did not start to soften until mid morning.

  2. Good question.  Consider this-  even if you're highly proficient and have "situational awareness", it only takes one out-of control idiot to ruin your day -or your life.  Broken limbs and popped cartilage can be repaired, but a head trauma can either end your life or drastically  alter it.  No one can deny that they cut down on the "freedom" we all want out on the hill, but rule #1 should be Take of Yourself First.  Your parents are simply doing what they're supposed to as parents  (yes as if you couldn't tell I'm one too).

  3. ive been skiing since i was like 5 (im 13) i have had a few falls that knocked me out but ive never worn a helmet and dont plan do just out of habit. But im a bit daredevil and somethimes dont make the best decisions like going into woods when theres like no snow in them (xD). I dont want to be a hypocrite and say that you should so just use ur best judgement

  4. Yes, cuz you never know.  You see professionals fall all the time.  If you plan on skiing fast, then definetely wear a helmet.

  5. A Helmet is a personal opinion. If you think that it is good to wear to protect you, just because you are on the greens at butternut doesn't mean you are protected. Some people put in the thing of isn't it ugly looking. That is ridiculous for me because if you get hurt i won't care if i looked good that day, but if i skied good and had a full day.

Though About 80% of injuries are to the knee or somewhere in the lower body

  6. I'm 15 and like you have been skiing since a very young age, last season was the first time I havn't worn a helmet because it was far too hot and had to stop wearing it, I was fine apart from when I did a jump, fell and hit my head on someones skis. The only time that I would've done anything serious if I hadn't been wearing my helmet was once when the chairlift came round fast and I looked behind me and it smacked me in the head, I was fine but if I wasnt wearing the helmet I would not have been skiing for the rest of the week.

  7. you should always wear a helmet.  You sound like an agressive skier, even if you arnt doing tricks you can still catch an edge and fall hard.  I wear a helmet.  Helmets are cool.  wearing a helmet is much better than cracking your head open and spilling your brain on the snow.  you can get cool looking helmet with audio and cover them with stickers.  Trust me helmets are super cool.

  8. no, only if wanted, needed, or is something for extra protection.... hey, its better to have more protection than none!

  9. at your level, this gives you more if a reason to where you should wear a helment. obviously you do the biggest hills and go pretty fast, so you can take a serious fall or crash into somebody. also, at your level you probaly dont HAVE to wear the helment since you probaly dont crash very often. its your choice.

  10. so, we all know you don't want to hear "wear it anyway" so I'll tell you a little story. My duaghter started skiing at 15 months old, as in just over a year. last year at age 12 years old she was skiing and got knocked about 8' in the air by a boarder doing a blind jump. the boarder had an extreme cut across his entire back because his board hit him. my kid's pole was intact bent completely around her. her helmet most likely saved her. she landed right on her head. she didn't do anything wrong. she has skiied for almost 11 years. snows soft..boarder was an idiot. one idiot is all you need to ruin your day. my kid hasn't skied since and probably won't...but she is alive and can walk and talk and she doesn't drool from some sort of brain damage. our family motto is broken bones can be fixed, but brain damage is forever. listen to your folks. they've wiped your butt long enough. brain damage can take you back to those days. oh, and BTW, my kid was not moving when she got hit, she was waiting for me.

  11. helmets would be awesome okay im a begginer and last week was like my first day wait it was my first day and I didnt even were a h**l met if you know what I mean my cousin has been skiing for four years never didnt were a h**l met

  12. Always where a helmet. It only takes one blow to the head to end your life. I'm also 14 and I always wear a helmet but I am into trick-skiing so if you are a very relaxed skier then it is not mandatory but if you are a pretty fast or aggressive skier then it is a must have.

  13. It's not necessary, no.  Neither is wearing pants.

Part of wearing a helmet is to protect yourself form things you do.  If you go off jumps or ride in trees - which you say you don't - that increases the need.  That's one reason to wear a helmet.

As far as I'm concerned the main reason to wear a helmet isn't because of my skills and actions, it's to protect myself from the unexpected.  Ever hit a bump weird or caught an edge and fallen over?  That's why I wear a helmet.

Then you add into it the other people on the slopes.  Sure, you may not be a beginner and you might be skiing within your capabilities but not everyone else out there is.  It's not uncommon for someone to wipe out and cause someone else to fall.

In the car I know that I can drive well and if it's just me on the roads I'm not going to get into an accident.  It's because of the other people on the road that I wear my seatbelt.

The fact that pushed me into wearing a helmet was that when I'm snowboarding I'm wearing big baggy pants, a jacket, gloves, and goggles.  You can barely tell who I am so who cares what I look like.

Plus you can get some really nice helmets these days with headphones built in.

  14. personally i think the MORE experience you are the MORE you need to wear a helmet. the better you are, the faster and harder you're going to be pushing yourself which can lead to harder crashes. let's face it, if you don't crash once in a while it means you're not pushing yourself hard enough. olympic athletes still crash and they're pretty much the best of the best so that pretty much solidifies my point. and they wear helmets. once you're older don't worry about a helmet 'cause you'll have life insurance haha
