My husband has been having constant neck pain for the last three weeks. He has gone to see a doctor about it who said that the muscles in his neck are swollen and gave him some anti-inflammatories. The pain had subsided a little bit yesterday (third day of taking the anti-inflammatories), but now it's back full force and he has more tingling sensation in this left arm and hand. Any ideas?

  1. His muscles are so tense that they are cutting off circulation to his arm.  I have that same problem.  The Dr. should of given him some muscles relaxers that would of helped more.  He should go back and ask for some.  Between the two he should find some relief.  I feel for him neck pain is a horrible thing to deal with.  Use heat on it when he can sometimes that helps too.  Best of luck hope this helps.

  2. This could be  a disc issue- especially because he is getting numbness and tingling into his arm and hand. If he does not get get better, best thing to do will be to get an MRI which will show if indeed there is a disc bulge or herniation. It could be just muscular too, but the only way to find out is with more diagnostic tests.  Hope this helps.

  3. A massage would be the best idea. The therapist would be able loosen up the Scalene Muscles, the muscles more than likely causing the pain, and bring some relief. Preferably a Deep Tissue Massage. He should also see a chiropractor or a Structural Therapist. (Also known as a 'Rolfer') They would be able to not only fix him, but also teach him how to prevent the problem. If it has nothing to do with their field of practice they would be able help him figure out his next course of action.
