Question:

Necrotic Tongue in Kitten

by  |  earlier

I have a four-month-old kitten who came down with calici a few weeks ago. She was put on Amoxicilin but the disease continued. Now the tip of her tongue is black and the underside is yellow. I understand that this means the tissue is necrotic. The vet has moved her up to a stronger antibiotic, but I thought necrotic tissue was completely dead and could not come back. Will the tongue have to be removed? If so, is it possible for a cat to drink without a tongue? Any thoughts?
