Nederland’s Thierry Schmitter retains overall lead in 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta
Second day of the 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta brought some classy sailing conditions for the 2.4mR fleet. With outstanding sailing skills on the Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay waters, Nederland’s Thierry Schmitter was able to retain his top spot
of the fleet standings with nine points.
The second day proceeding did not go according to the expectations as he clinched two third podium finishes in both races of the day but still the Dutch sailor managed to maintain his top position. He will now be aiming to stay on the leading podium position
until the finish of the regatta to claim the title.
Winning the 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta 2.4mR title gave him a lot of confidence and he proved his class with impressive sailing at the racing area. The first two races of the regatta were clear example of his boosted confidence when he secured a second place
in the opening race and a bullet in the next to ensure his dominance over the fleet.
So far, the fleet has raced in four beats in the event to produce the recent results. The weather conditions on the racing area were ideal as strong winds surrounded the area instantly after the proceedings started. The race committee is hoping that the
breeze would remain the same for the rest of the regatta.
