Nederland’s Thierry Schmitter takes lead in 24MR fleet: 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta
After putting up an excellent sailing performance on the Medemblik waters, the Dutch sailor, Thierry Schmitter was able to maintain his lead on the 24MR fleet with splendid finishes.
The Dutch sailor was outstanding on the waters from the beginning of the regatta and despite hitting some lower finishes; he was able to top the fleet standings at the end of third day regatta proceedings.
The weather conditions on the Medemblik waters were quite lower than expected which was not a good sign for the sailors but they still showed their determination and decided to start the third day proceedings.
Despite the unfavourable wind conditions, the fleet completed the races scheduled for the third day. With the finish of the third day proceedings, the Dutch sailor was still on top with 25 points. Schmitter took part in nine races to formulate the third
day results which also has a discarded race.
Schmitter topped the fleet at the end of first day races when he took a bullet along with a second and a fourth finish. He tumbled down in the standing during the second day of the regatta as he finished on 10th podium. Nevertheless, a bullet
and a third finish on the second day brought him on top again.
First race of Day 3 did not go according to his hopes as he crossed the finish line on 11th podium. At this point, he looked in danger because there was a lack of wind to have a perfect sail but the Dutch sailor did not give up and clicked a first
and a third finish to stay on the top with 25 points
