Nedum Onuoha says Sunderland could have had a better start
Sunderland’s Nedum Onuoha revealed that the English Premier League side’s players are unhappy at their start to the new season.
The Black Cats have gotten the campaign off to an impressive start with a win over title hopefuls Manchester City and draws against big-guns Liverpool and Arsenal. They also remain unbeaten in their last four games.
Despite those results, defender Onuoha said that he and his teammates feel as if they should have picked up more points in order to be sitting a little higher in the table, instead of in their present 11th-place position.
The former England Under-21 international told the BBC that, “As a team we're disappointed we haven't got another win under our belts. As much as we've been unbeaten in certain games, we're still mid-table. Another win and we could have been comfortably
fifth or sixth."
Onuoha has not been a Sunderland player for long, having joined on a season-long loan from City over the summer, but he revealed that he is loving life so far in the North East.
"It's been really enjoyable, I've enjoyed playing at the Stadium of Light and I never realised how intense it can be. I've seen sights I didn't think I'd see anywhere else than the City of Manchester, it's really, really rocking. We've played against City
there, and Arsenal (at the Emirates Stadium), and got four points which could have been six, and I didn't think that would happen."
Meanwhile, Sunderland face another stern test when they take on Manchester United on Saturday. Onuoha is staying grounded despite the fearsome reputation of the Black Cats’ opponents.
He told newspaper The Northern Echo that, "It would be fantastic to keep the run going against United. It's important we concentrate on winning, not putting so much emphasis on the fact it's against a big side.’’
