i'm a 15 year old boy (freshman)

I ran a 21:30 5k in the fall, probably not my best effort, bc we usually ran 2 mi but wte...more recently, i ran a 2:33 800m

would it be reasonable to try to break 20 mins this season? If i could, what time do you guys think i could get? also, any ideas for summer training b4 the season begins, im ok with distance, i can go far (like 6-7mi) but not fast 16sec 100m dash. Any ideas?

  1. Don't really worry about mileage when you train, and I don't mean throw away you watch and just run through the woods. Just run distance and enjoy yourself like start running at 7am and come back at 8 am and don’t worry about how far you have gone.

You do not want to subconsciously stress yourself into going faster than you need to for your base mileage.

Also try to avoid concrete and asphalt as much as possible because they are tougher on our body and will force you to tire out quicker. Just enjoy yourself and try to get your coach to help you with some drills and technique on the side.

    Good luck

  2. hey i was exactly where you are at the end of my freshman season (5k time of 21:42)... i've posted this many times and i'll do it once more you need to run over the summer and get a solid mileage base in...this will put you at the peak of your ability during XC season(i ran a pr of 18:01 sophomore year) i have the program i used saved in word docs on my computer altered for this summer and i would be happy to share them with you just contact me through my profile...it is a mixture of long easy days and harder speed days...you run 6-7 days a week but can take one of the long easy days anytime you feel too exhausted and it won't affect you at all making it an ideal program...i would also work on your abs...they don't have to be a hi-def six pack but they should be in shape...try some medicine ball routines as well as some sit-ups and leg-ups Happy running

  3. i dont have any experience running 5k but i do run the 800 and my best time is a 2:31 and i'm a girl not to brag or anything but i just started maybe u should try gradually running with mileage start off at like 2 or 3 miles and increase every day or so but dont strain yourself
