Okay I know I am not very good because I am a Junior an 2:27.9 is my best time. I was wondering if I could drop it to 2:20. Is it possible to sprint a full 800 meters?

  1. well it is definitely possible for you to drop your time to below 2:20 but it is not possible to sprint a full 800m. Infact, it is impossible to sprint a full 400m. During the 400m its about running as fat as you can, and then slowing down the least. The human body cannot handle the stress you would place on it if you were to try and sprint the whole time. You can run all out but that isn't a sprint.

And your time is fine, I mean you have room to improve, but you being able to get out there and do that is impressive. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

If you want to drop below the 2:20 mark, you just need to incorporate speed work into your training regime, and within little time you will be under that mark, and it will seem that you did it with little effort.

Try running 200m repeats at about 90 percent of your all out effort. Do this 20 times with 2 min rest in between each set. Do this workout 2 times a week, and do your regular running workouts the other days, and within a month, month and a half tops, you will break that mark

    Best of luck to you.

If you need any further info or have any other questions on this feel free to email me with them, and I will be glad to answer them for you.

    Good luck

  2. The 800 m is pretty much a sprint, especially with your time. Few people can run the 800 at their 200 or 400 m pace--or all out, in that case--that's probably why people are saying that you can't sprint the 800 m. I run the 800 m. I start fast, trying to stick with whoever I can pace with. Then, I slow down a bit (but not too much) before or at the 2nd 200, speed up at the 3rd 200, and go all out in the last 200. I definitely don't run the entire race going all out. I go as fast as my body will let me, so that I'm using as much energy as possible for the entire race. I'd be lucky to drop my time to yours.

  3. idk if its a good idea to sprint a 800 m. but while u r running it u should try to concentrate on staying with a person who u know can run around that time 4 it and of cource just try 2 train a bit harder by doing little stuff like running on the weekend and doing all the hard, faster workouts with your team...

    good luck by the way.

  4. It is the 800m run unlike the 400m dash LOL

Try to run even splits, and the first 200 is the most important. Many Many people go out to fast in the first 200 and the race is OVER, you cant come back from that and the rest of the race in the person dying

  5. Its POSSIBLE to sprint 800 meters, but it isnt easy. I think a reasonable speed is about 130% of your mile pace. Take it like the first and fourth laps of a mile, start out fast, but not too fast, and then the second lap go all out.

  6. the 800 is my best event. i run the first lap with the pack, but the 3rd 200m is where EVERYONE slows down because you think "ugh, i still have a lap to go". if you focus all your energy on surging that 3rd 200m then adrenaline will naturally carry you the last 200m.  chances are when you surge right there, no one will want to go with you because its the hardest spot mentally to push.  try that. hope it helps:) (just ran it today about 3hrs ago, haha)
