Need Advice! Found 3 lost Beagles!?

I am a 28 year old single male who has a lot on his plate right now. I was walking my 2 siberian huskies this morning (who I rescued from the woods last year) and I heard these howling yelps from the mountains near my house. All my neighbors came outside and wondered what the yelos were. My huskies were going absolutely nuts and I knew that there were dogs in distress. I went into the tick infested mountains and found 3 beagles stuck in a ditch. I rescued them and now I have them out on my deck. Two of them have shock collars on and one of them has nothing. They are all fat (well fed), smell decent, and have tartar on their teeth sign of being fed regularly). I have been driving around ALL day looking for flyers and have been searching the internet for postings. I already missed work today and the only shelter in Nashville,TN that doesnt have a wait is a 3 day kill shelter, which means if no one claims them in 3 days they will be put to sleep. What the heck do I do? I love animals but I do not have the time or the money. I am running out of options....

  1. try taking them to a local vet and have them scanned for a microchip.  maybe with them being taken care of so well maybe the owners had them microchipped.  you can also have them take down the information if anyone calls in looking for them.  also look for some local animal rescues, maybe they can take them for you.

  2. Post your own posters. But don't put their pictures on the posters. Just a general description like you have given here.

Put an ad in the paper. Most papers let you run it for 3 days for one price. Include in the ad the fact that someone can adopt them. Then when they call make sure what kind of home you are putting them in.

The presence of a shock collar on 2 of them and not the other tells me that probably the one without the collar probably got the other two out of someones yard.

I know that you are anxious to get them out of your care asap but this is the only thing you can do at this time.

Take pictures of them and take it to work with you or anywhere else you go. Betcha someone will want them.

  3. Thank you for rescuing them.   Sounds like possible hunting dogs?

Call the area vets to see if there are lost notices there and since they may be ones who got lost on a hunting trip try a fairly wide area.  see if a vet will check then for ID chips at little or no cost.  Many will.  Contact the dog catchers and humane society not to ask them to take them but to see if there is a report of their being lost.  Consider putting a found notice in the paper or on any available free websites.

If this does not turn up an owner who has an explanation of how this happened contact the nearest beagle rescue organization - for links to different ones see http://www.altavista.com/web/results?ita...   THey can probably do the check for ID chip too if vet won't do it free.

If all that fails go to main Yahoo page click groups on the left and do a search for FREECYCLE in your area and offer them to a good home.   Please pet the little guys for me.

  4. You could try taking them to the vet you have for your huskies to see if any of them are microchipped-- if they are it'll give you the number of the place they were chipped, and they'll have their owners names/numbers on file.

In the mean time, post up flyers as well saying that you found three lost puppies.

  5. If you don't have time post posters or call in an ad for your classifieds about lost dogs, then look for a local beagle or dog rescue online and call them. Wow, that 3 day rule is cruel.

  6. Look online and see if you can find a beagle rescue group--I know of rescue groups for other breeds, so maybe one exists. Otherwise, call the vets in your area to see if they know anything about the dogs; I'm sure a vet would remember a client with 3 beagles. Ask them for help and advice, too. There must be rescue groups in your area that don't put dogs to sleep. They usually have volunteers who care for the dogs until they're adopted.

  7. eeeeeeek um i wuld put them inn a shelter, try selling them even though you dont want the money it dosent matter sell them to ppl who will giv them a good home its betr then them being dead =[
