I went to the doctor last thursday and I was measuring 22 weeks and I was a little over 25 weeks. She did an ultrasound just to check my fluids and that turned out ok. Now I am scheduled for another complete scan this afternoon(like the one I had a 19 weeks). I know they are measuring the baby but does anyone know what this could mean? Also, does anyone have any suggestions as to what questions to ask. This is my first child and I am clueless and scared. Thanks

  1. I don't think the measuring thing is that important.  You might start measuring bigger later on, it all just depends.  I wouldn't rely too much on it.  Ask lots of questions and make sure you leave there understanding everything you wanted to understand, that's why they get paid the big bucks!

  2. Well with the ultra sound, they probably got a pretty accurate result in determaining if there were any problems with the baby. They can measure under at times. I wouldn't stress too much. I measured 30 weeks at 33wks. It did stress me out but then my next measurement was fine.. A few questions to ask would be ...what pain methods they have, so you can learn more about it, reasons they will have to induce or do a C section.. Every hospital/birthing certre have different policies... Good Luck and all should be fine..

  3. Measurements are always wrong. All it takes is for your baby to move from one side to another to make this measurement wrong. If you are measured the next day, often you are measuring ahead. This is a useless diagnostic tool. Now because the measuring is obviously off, you will have another useless diagnostic tool, the ultrasound, which also will not give you an accurate estimation of due date, gestational length, weight, size, etc. You will notice that the ultrasound will give you even different answers. Just more needless things for a new mom to worry about.

Take the first day of your last period and count forward 42 weeks to determine an estimated due date if you are a first time mother. If you are not a drug addict and are not secretly dieting and your health is good there is nothing to worry about. Best wishes, G

  4. Ask them exactly what you are asking us. If they don't give you a good answer ask a different doctor. Just any questions that pop into your head... ask them. Oh and if you think of questions now...write them down because you will most likely forget when you get there.
