Need Answers for: License for Fishing at Lake Tahoe, CA & Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

So I am planning a trip to Zephyr Cove, Nevada. I was on their home page and read that California License can be used in Nevada if fishing at Lake Tahoe. Is this true? Also, since in California, when you turn 16, you need to buy license, in Nevada, when you turn 12, you need to buy a license. Since I will be fishing at Lake Tahoe on the Nevada side, and I an 15, would I need to purchase a license?

you will need a license unless you want to pay the fine for being a poacher and be arrested and go to jail get a record and eventually turn your life to crime when all you had to do was buy a silly piece of paper with a stamp on it!

Here's the deal....if you're fishing on a boat, then you're legal anywhere on the lake.  NV recognizes the CA laws as long as you are "in" the water.  However, once you step on shore, and are anywhere on the NV side, then you MUST have a license if you are 12 or older.  So basically, if you're planning on fishing from shore at all while within the NV state line, you will need a NV license.  You will have to go to a local sporting goods store or bait/tackle shop in order to get a license.  I'm sure they have one day licenses there too.

Complicated - good luck fishing - I believe the first posting should answer all your questions.  Also remember to go deep if you're fishing for trout - when it's warm they go deep for the cool water.

Hey bud, unfortunately, your question has to many parameters as this lake is so huge and has so many regulations, as far as live bait areas and catch and release areas and so on, so different areas and different strategies and baits, etc., require different licensing or permits.

The entire show is run by the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and you should be able to obtain all the info you need from this site..........
