I was on earlier about my dress and it has become clear that wedding planner not my forte at all. So you've all been an awsome help already so please a little more.

So I'm thinking it wont be to fancy an out door wedding, but what to do about my bridesmaids. Heres the thing none of them are at all simalar in body type.

One (Elizabeth) Is kind of shoe and Really curvy, where another (Megen) Is super skinny with no curves at all. The other two Liz and Charlotte well, Liz is super muscular as she'd say shes built like a man I though I don't think so and Char well shes pretty average.

Any ideas on dresses.

Or maybe a few in simalar styles (can you do that?)

But please any thing will help even if its just to inspire the wedding is kind of a rush job but needs to be splendid. (insane mother in law)

Help

Thanks

Holly

  1. You could have them all wear the same colour dress, just in different styles that suit them. You can either buy the fabric and get them made, or go to a bridal shop that stocks different styles in the same colours. That way everyone feels comfortable in what they are wearing but they still look like bridesmaids!

However, if you want them all in the same dress, go for an A-line dress- that suits most of the body types the best.

  2. a strapless tea-length dress with empire waist tends to work well with all body types. If you go to a place like alfred angelo which can customize your dress - for those who need a longer or shorter length - it will help. Just try not to pick something that's form fitting or works for only one body type.

  3. Do dress in the same color and fabric but let each pick there own style.

  4. How about just picking a color and letting them pick their own dress? Totally acceptable.

  5. I'm in the same boat as you - i have three bridesmaids that are completely different shapes and sizes. So I am going to tell them to pick their own dress, in whatever style they like and feel comfortable in. Just as long as it is black and knee length.

My friend did this and it turned out really nice

  6. I had the same problem. all of my bridesmaids were totally different body types. I chose a main color (purple) and each girl wore a dress in different shades and styles that suited them. My maid of honor had two shades in her dress and my bridesmaids each had a dress in a shade that matched the maid of honor.  My suggestion would be to pick a color and then similar shades to go with each different person. decide on long or short then let them pick dresses in various shades of your color that would match their body style.  In my case the MOD was long with the other two bridesmaids in short dresses.  Also, I matched my flowers and cake with the dresses. As well as the decorations were all the same shades as the dresses.

  7. strapless black/navy blue satin dresses cut at the knee always look good on any body type  :)

  8. I'm letting my bridesmaids pick the style of dress, and I'm having them made from the same fabric. That way I get the look and colour I want, while they get to look and feel comfortable in what they wear! It's pretty hard to get a dress that suits a curvy woman and a woman who is thin as a beanstalk! So just pick slightly different styles for them and have them in the same fabric.

  9. Muscular, skinny and curvy cover about everything so putting them in the same dress isn't great. Be nice and don't force people to wear a strapless dress, some women wouldn't be comfortable having to adjust their bodice all the time, and trying to fit everyone into the same strapless dress will result in at least one, if not two or three, of them having severe problems with the cut.

My recommendation (based on how much input my bridesmaids wanted) would be to provide a line of separates (they sell skirts and bodices individually) and a colour. Giving the line lets them all have the same colour (they were worried it would be different shades). You should also specify a skirt length, or possibly even a skirt. Everyone can then pick her own style. The muscular girl might want something like a halter top to show off her back, the curvy girl will likely appreciate something which lets her wear a good bra (I always do). There's also the option of just different dresses from the same line, with the same idea - give a colour and set a hemlength.

If your bridesmaids are less picky about things (if they're older than mine that's more likely) then they might not care about having that much direction. But everyone having the same colour was something that my bridesmaids care about, as is everyone having the same hem length.

  10. Pick a designer, color and length and tell them to run with it and get a dress they like.  (You can also specify fabric if there's multiple choices within a designer)

This is what I did for our wedding.  I had one BM who was 5'6" and fairly muscular, one who was 5"1' and extremely petite and another who was 7 months pregnant.  No way that we were going to find something that worked for all of them.  Plus I don't like the matchy-matchy look.

I think letting them pick out their own dress lets them express their own style more and is more visually interesting in the pictures.

David's bridal is a great place to get the dresses since you're short on time.  Good luck and have fun!
