I work for a none profit clinic in a very very small town in TN and we have 50 % of our patients have no insurance and the others have a poor quality insurance. We try each year to help the seniors in the Old folks homes and get them gifts for the holidays. This year we are also planning on doing the 150 gifts for the seniors and doing a 100 or more gifts for kids of soldiers who are leaving after the new year for Iraq and we want to make this a great holiday for them all. We have a huge holiday Craft and bake sale in NOvember and all the proceeds go to this sale. We takie all kinds of donations so if you have any ideas that may help us out please let me know. We are all pretty crafty and this will be a great time to get everyone started

thanks :))

  1. how about trying to cross stitch projects, as long as its the stamped, cross stitch, so they can see the pattern in front of them. Trust me the counted cross stitch is h**l for them to do. I cant even do it, & I do the stamped cross stitching.

  2. you could crochet afghans, slippers, gloves, hats or scarves, ask people in the community to donate scrap yarn or they can help out and make items or donate granny squares that you could sew together for blankets, you could advertise your cause online and have people send you granny squares

  3. one of the things I did for little children is socks dolls.  You can create many interesting sock dolls with interesting cloths to go with it.  I think this would make an interesting gifts for the kids.

All you need is the following things:

    1.  Plain white or beige or brown socks (kid or adult)

    2.  Colorful socks for the cloths (kid or adult)

    3.  Needle and thread

    4.  Button for eyes (optional)

    5.  Colorful wool for hair

    6.  Hobby fill or cotton feeling to fill up the sock

  4. We support many senior centers. What we do is knit or crochet lap blankets for the seniors to put over their legs to keep them warm while they are sitting down relaxing. They get chills so easily and this really helps them. Actually, they can be made very inexpensively by taking 2 pcs of material, and putting some batting between them and sewing them around the outside seam. Then make little ties all over the material. They are quick to make, usually within an hour, and are so useful to seniors. They really appreicate them also.

Also make a small wooden box, approx. 3inches by 5inches. Line the wooden box with plastic. This can be done by cutting a plastic bag from the grocery store. Glue the plastic bag to the inside of the box. Now put in a small amount of soil, but be careful the soil should only fill the box half way to the top of the box. Now plant a little cactaus in the middle. Fill the rest of the box with some sand, add a small stone or two well placed on top of the sand. Now you have a wonderful planter that can be kept and cherished for years to come. If you wish you can paint the outside of the box, some bright cheerful colors. I wish you well with your efforts. Be blessed by it...Rev. Ed

  5. Cross-stitched bookmarks are very neat and easy to do, especially when using aida band (several widths available) as well as iron-on backing.
