Question:

Need Festive Dish for 4th Party?

Last year we cut stars into the side of a watermelon, and made a big fruit bowl....got rave reviews.

I've been looking for a recipe that looks as festive as it takes, but can't find anything.

If you have an idea, please help....keep in mind this is an outside party, so items that require refrigeration, aren't good.

Appreciate your help!

  1. A fun thing is to make a baskrt out of a watermellon. Carving it is half the fun, then use a melon ballwer to make different sorts of melon balls, add some other fruits and set in a pan of ice. Is a great fuit salad.

  2. Are you SURE you can't have a dish that needs refrigeration?  Even for the dessert?? ......I make little cream puffs, and fill them with chocolate pudding.  Stack them into a tall pyramid shape;  drizzle chocolate syrup down the sides and dollop with whipped cream.  THEN, stuck sparklers in all over it and lit them! .....  I did that for my husband's 40th birthday:)    .....Well, you could always fill little cream puffs with egg & ham salad, as appetizers, with parsley stuck between them, and the sparklers (but it wouldn't be as good as the dessert profiteroles)........

  3. Go to Kraft foods.com and look through their summer recipes or 4th party ideas. They always have amazing things and most are relatively simple and inexpensive, but look ravishing!

  4. You could make a blueberries, strawberries and a white fruit dip of your choice.. you can put them in a pan and make it into a shape of a flag.. my mom and grandma did it one year and people thought it was nice!

  5. Hope this helps:

    RECIPE INGREDIENTS:

    29 large strawberries

    30 large blackberries

    7 or so large bananas

    Lemon juice

    1. Hull and halve 29 large strawberries and set them aside.

    2. Arrange 30 large blackberries, as shown, in the upper left corner of a serving tray or cutting board (it should be at least 8 by 13 inches).

    3. Cut 58 banana slices, 3/4-inch-thick, into a bowl. Sprinkle on lemon juice and toss the slices gently with a rubber spatula to keep them from browning.

    4. Assemble the banana slices in rows as shown and top each slice with a strawberry half.

It should end up looking like the American Flag!!!  Happy Independence Day!

  6. Everyone adores deviled eggs. We pretend they're too old-fashioned, but we fall on them and gobble them up. I take them to lots of parties. I arrange 6-8 halves on small plastic plates. Layer them in your own cooler with bottles of frozen water. Take out as needed. Perfectly safe. A red&white doghouse cooler can accommodate 2 dozen eggs, halved, on small plates.

For the 4th, sprinkle blue & silver confettis on your tiny platters, and put extra paprika on the eggs.
