So basically i got a virus and scanned my computer with AVG antivirus and SuperAntispyware and got rid of it which then prompted me to restart my computer... it did and NOW it wont start up.

It goes to a black screen which says .... <WINDOWS ROOT>\SYSTEM32\HAL.DLL. is missing or corrupt and tells me to RE-install it. I have an HP Pavillion with windows XP and bought it brand new and it did NOT come with a CD... it has a built-in recovery system. My question is how do i fix this so i can use it again. Im at my wits end and tried everything... even restarting it in safe mode which will not work... I need HELP ASAP!!!

And PLZZ explain thoroughly so i can understand.

Only serious answers PLZZ!

Also i wanted to know how to do a system recovery AND if i did will it work or still tell me that im missing files or have corrupted files???

THANX for any help!!!

 1. in the start menu press on "run" then type "msconfig." In the box that comes up you should see a button "Launch system restore." Choose a restore date prior to your virus.

 2. Insert Xp cd and try to Setup it asks for to repair

 3. Hmmm......from what i know (PLEASE DO AT YOUR OWN RISK!!) the best way to get rid of this is get an OEM copy of whatever OS you are using and just start from scratch. BUT ONCE AGAIN that's just my opinion.

 4. insert windows xp disk and when its finished loading say repair...that should do the trick

 5. Re-installing means with the recovery cd, you should have created your own recovery cd first thing with prinstalled windows..ouch.

 6. If you can even get on to Windows go to Start>Help and Support>Search for System Restore and then do that and go back in computer time! LOL

 7. You can try to go into safe mode, and when the dialog box telling you about system restore appears click "NO" to launch it and restore your computer to when it was working fine. You last option is to use system recovery, to use it start your computer and press F10 most likely to launch system recovery, after it loads up, click advanced recovery options, and click full system restore. Hope these tip help out!!!!
