Question:

Need Help ASAP with a wireless router

I cannot connect to the wireless router in my house. My roommate changed the permission from a WEP key to a password. I know the password, but he went on vacation for a week and I cannot figure this out. I am running Windows XP on a toshiba satellite. Through "network connections", I can only get to "choose a network". When the comp asks for the WEP key, there is no way to submit a password. What am I doing wrong? Please help, I am ready to throw my laptop against the wall, which I obviously don't want to do.

  1. from my understanding a WEP is a individual networking (you have our own line no one will  get on your channel with  out that code  hard for hackers as well) verizon Carry's that for business and for home networking, you need to set your computer with that code. even if you got the password it wouldn't matter. there is like 4 to 5 different things you have to do before you computer is compatible with that network.  call him and ask him if he wrote the codes some where .. cause if he didn't you have to wait till he gets there to call the company for them to help you threw the codes.. en less you got permission to call them then call them and they will take you step bye step threw them to make your computer compatible.  hoped that helped!

  2. First, delete all the wireless profiles you have on your computer.

    Reboot.

Try to reconnect and see if it comes up to the password portion.

Otherwise, reset the wireless router back to default and change the settings so that it will have the password you think is in it.

  3. Take a Paper clip and find the reset button on the back of the router. Use the paper clip to push it in and hold it for 10 seconds.
