Hi im trying to add a little spice to my pocket bike and wanted to hook up some lights. I have 2 led strips, an led toggle switch, and a pair of led flashing lights, all say work on 12v power source. So what would be the best way to hook these all together with the 12v power source? And what would be a good compack 12v battery to buy for this?

Thanks Appreciate Any Advice

  1. You will need a few things. A pair of jumper wires with alligator clips on each end and an amp meter. You can get a volt/ohm/amp meter for less than $5.00 and the cables shouldn't cost more than a buck or so. Then hook one line to the + battery terminal of your (or parents) car and the other to the + terminal of each light system (on at a time) and the meter between the - terminal and the battery's ground terminal. That will measure the current drain of each unit. Add the amounts together and that will give an idea of how big a battery you will need. If the total current is less than about 3 amps, you can use a 12 volt camcorder battery as most of them have a fairly high amp/hour rating  and are rechargeable. If the total current is much over 3 amps you may have to go to a small motorcycle or ridding mower type battery. You can then charge the battery with one of those cigarette lighter chargers that just has 2 wires coming from it and letting the battery charge over night.
