I am looking to paint my 2000 Plymouth Neon, I don't want to paint it all at once, figure it would take to long so I just want to do piece by piece.

Some insight on the steps I need to take and how much it will cost for me to do it! Thanks!

  1. You should always try to paint a car all at once. Save up your money and have the whole thing done.

The paint on vehicles fade, and when you paint one panel and not the other next to it, you will quickly have a multi-colored vehicle.

A cheap paint job from Maaco will last for a few years, but it will only look good for maybe up to 3 years if you keep it waxed and polished. Those are usually around $300-$400.

A next step up job will usually run around $500-$800, and should be a 2-stage paint job, minimum, and will likely last about as long as the original paint job.

A good job on a vehicle that small will usually run about $1000-$2000, but will likely outlast the car.

If you do decide to do it yourself, you need to get the equipment, and buy some good paint. Big compressor, cleaning and drying system for the air, a good sprayer, hoses, fittings, paint, cleaner, gloves, masks, etc.. Not to mention a paint booth if you don't want dirt all over your paint job. But you are looking at spending well over $1000 for the equipment to do it yourself. You could always go the spray can method, but that will look terrible.
