I went to the pet store, and bought a betta that was sick, I felt bad for him, he was stressed, and has cotton. I took him home and put him in a smal tank with gravel, water, and a plant. I conditioned the water, and put "Simple Betta Funsua dn Baterica cure" he is gasping for air, and is tilted on his side. Any advice? Thanks.

  1. Your heart was in the right place, but it is never a good idea to buy a sick animal. It sounds like all you can do now is wait and see.

~Bettas are air breathers and naturally come up to the surface to breath.

  2. Well I dont know if this would help but buy an air pump and air stone to put in the tank. Gives oxygen so it might help. Also did you put in the water conditioner or w/e its called to clean the water?

  3. Oh, I know how you mean...I always feel bad and want to rescue the bettas. Cruel how they are kept in those cups.  Unfortunately, it sounds as though he's about to die, if he's tilting to the side.

BUT, if you don't want to give up, I hear that Jungle Labs Pond Fungus Eliminator works wonders.  I have never actually had to use it myself yet, but it's gotten many good reviews from fish forums online.  Might want to look into it...since the little guy is obviously in trouble anyway, it's worth a shot.  Make sure it's compatible with the other med though.  I think the simply betta stuff is just an herbal thing (what's the active ingredient?  Find out if it actually cures this, or just soothes wounds.)

Raise the temp a little, and keep the water squeaky clean and well oxygenated.

    I hope he pulls through!

  4. i had a betta fish that lived for 2 years, i think they get more stressed when there water isn't changed enough, or the gravel isn't cleaned good enough,

Your fish doesn't sound good, not a good a good sign when it starts to lean to one side. he will prob die in during the night,

I had my betta in a half gallon tank, and just cleaned it with water and and a paper towel. and cleaned the gravel really well.

Your a good person on trying to save a fish, there needs to be many more people out there like you.

I dont think the fungus and bacterial meds would of helped because the betta do live in small tank, it would be easy to put to much meds in by mistake.

Some fish stores will take back the fish if you only had it for one day, if you bring your fish back they should replace it for you, for free..

you might want to give them a call..

    Good Luck to you
