  1. don't worry, my gerbil had the same thing happen to her. just wipe some anti-fungal medicine on it just in case, wrap a bandage so it doesn't get infected, clean the cage more often to minimize the amount of bacteria, and watch it regularly just in case. don't let the tail get black or the vet would have to cut more of the tail off.

  2. Wipe the poor gerbils tail off! But be gentle, don't make it start to bleed again. Just take ultra care of him and make sure it doesn't get infected. Because if it does really bad, you could have a problem.

OK, now put him in a bath of room-temperature water with a little bit of salt. Just gently, gently, dip him in. Afterwords, get a paper towel and dry him off, try not to touch the tail. Once the tail dries, take a little bit of Neosporin in a clean paper towel and gently put the neosorinated paper towel over the tail and hold it where it isn't hurt, and gently press the tail. (GENTLY!!!!!!!!!!!) It should heal on it's own, but keep an eye out. GoOd LuCk!¡!

  3. Um you should definitally go to a normal vet. Like where you take a dog or a cat. Your gerbil could possibbly die. My friend had two gerbils and one of their gerbils bit the other one's tail and it died a couple days later.

  4. that happened to my hamster once.

no big deal if the bloods already dried.

if it doesnt stop bleeding, you might have a problem.

  5. if its not bleeding anymore just leave it alone and watch that it doesn't get infected,if it swells and gets red and starts oozing yellow gunk thats infection and it needs a vet....

  6. Kaseys answer is completely correct. Although your gerbil will have permanently lost the fluffy tip of his tail, he'll be fine providing it doesn't get infected. Just keep an eye on it for the next few days to make sure he's still ok.

It may be an idea though to look into why he has lost his tail tip. Maybe you have a wire wheel that he could have got his tail caught in? Gerbils should be in solid tanks/cages with solid floors otherwise he may do himself more damage. Just inspct the cage carefully and get rid of anything that little paws, legs and tails could get caught in when he's running around.

    Hope this helps.

  7. someone or something pulled to hard on it tail,

it happen it notting to worry about, thhe gerbil will be find, it was to shop birds picking the up and eating them

  8. There is nothing you can do just let the other gerbils take care of it, they will eat the part that has no skin on it adn then your gerbil will be fine   it will just have a shorter tail the rest

It happened to my gerbil and her mother eat the part with out the skin and she was fine after that  it happens, other then that there is not much you can do if it happened in the wild they would do the same thing.

  9. I knew a gerbil whose tail got chopped off.  If it's not bleeding anymore you could let it heal, but if it is bleeding, don't touch the tail or the gerbil.  It may be diseased.  either way, your gerbil is going to be fine.

P.S. Did you find the tail?

  10. If the blood is dry, there isn't a big problem.

  11. That's completely natural.

Gerbil tails are meant to come off when they are stuck on anything. It won't grow back, but it will be just fine with a nub or no tail at all.

For now take a damp cloth and wipe off the blood, use a dab of Neosporin and possibly bandage it- but only if you can watch, since the gerbil will chew off the medical tape and the fibers can become trapped in its digestive system, causing death.

If you can afford it, switch to CareFresh Ultra for a couple weeks while it heals so there is less chance of bedding sticking to the wound and keep it a little cleaner than normal to avoid infection.

If it starts to look swollen or feel warmer than the rest of the gerbil, he will need to see a vet for antibiotics.

For now, though, just help the healing process along a little and he should be fine.
