Need Help Quitting Chewing Tobacco?

I'm 17 and have been chewing for about 2 years. I did it only about once a week for a while, but now i do it almost twice a day. I have stopped for weeks with no withdrawals, the problem is i get cravings of just having it in my mouth. I live in a small "hickish" town so its always around which makes it really hard to stop. I find myself crave them when im just sitting around with friends doing nothing or on long drives in a car. The thing im most scared about is cancer, after hearing you could get it even with very little tobacco use. I need an alternative other than seeds/gum. You think it would be worth buying nicotine free chew or even jerky chew? Remeber, im only 17 so i cant get gum or patches. Anything helps. Thanks.

  1. try replacing it with something, coffee, water, tootpick etc.  They also sell some tobacco free chew.  If you can get chew when youre 17, why cant you get the gum???

  2. Chewing tobacco is a hard thing to quit. You definitely have the right idea to quit now since you haven't been doing it that long. The longer you wait the harder it will be. I had the most luck with the nicotine free chew. That way you can get around the physical craving. Also, you have the right idea, whenever you can't use the nicotine free chew be sure to have some gum or seeds handy. Keep yourself busy. You'll be happy that you quit. Best of luck to you.

  3. try nic eq

  4. just buy regular chewing gum or bubble gum to use a substitute.

  5. I have chewed for 23 years and have pre cancerous growths from chewing. JUST QUIT!!! It is not worth it to die for something so stupid. You sound like a smart kid with a good sense for what you need to do. Getting hypnotized may help but no guarantess. I know quitting is hard but you dying would be a lot harder for you loved ones, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

  6. My husband used to chew when he was younger. He quit before I met him. A few days ago he recently started again because he had the same urges you had, so keep in mind even after you quit, you'll still get the urge to chew.

Good luck and stay focused. Try the jerky and then every time you get the urge to chew, just buy jerky instead.

  7. Okay, quit and put up with the 1 week headache or be a weak tool and keep doing what you are doing... Chew like a fiend or cut it out and drink beer...

it doesn't have to be so complicated...

  8. it look like you live in the states because un canada you can get anny thing starting 14 without your parents knowing it condoms,patches,whatever...

But I certainly know that you CAN NOT get cancer by *chewing* tobacco maybe by swallowing it but it would take allot of it the only thing important is that you just don't smoke it, cause your still growing and smoking it would increase you rate of having cancer.

-To end taking it- you just need to take a lil less every day until it comes that you don't need anny.

  9. Use your BRAIN, stick 4 pieces of bubble gum in your mouth and spit alot.

  10. try eating lots of ice cream

  11. Wow....good for you, you are showing a maturity beyond your years.....I am a dental hygienist in a 'hick' town with a bunch of 'chewers' and I tell them 'it is not if....it is when' you get oral cancer....

There is a product called 'mint snuff''.....you might call around some of the liquor stores to see if anyone carries it....

No one really 'likes' it, but it is similar enough...and it is more of an aversion therapy....

Gum and beef jerky are also good choices....

but you want to do sugar-free stuff if you choose candy, mints or gum.

    good for you!!

You are doing yourself a favor for the rest of your life!!!

  12. ew. i live in a 'hickish' town too. all the hicks chew here. and it's disgusting and a MAJOR turn off to most.

i don't know how to quit, just thought i'd let you know that most think it's really disgusting for inspiration to quit. haha :)

  13. Dont do any of it. Just try normal beef jerkey but keep it in your mouth for a while. Its healthy and it will keep you from chewing.
