Ok here's the thing: My wife and I are planning to get into a Nursing program, specifically an Associates degree in Nursing, in any of the community colleges here in Chicago. We have already saved $50,000 and we're not interested in getting any financial aide. (1) Is $50,000 enough to cover for tuition and books for the two of us, including prerequisite classes that we need to take? (2) Any recommended local (Chicago) school out there that is within $50,000? Thank you so much.

  1. The answer is dependent on several factors:

    1) Will the two of you be working full-time, part-time or not at all during the time you are at school?

    2) Does the $50,000 include transport and miscellaneous expenses?

    3) Does the $50,000 include lab fees and any registration fees?

    4) How will going to school impact the both of you and your lifestyle?

Without further information I am going to have to give you my gut feeling here. Whilst $50,000 is a good start for a two year program I suspect if you are not looking to take out financial aid you will be short by about $30,000. The reason for saying this I am left to wonder if you have considered the impact going to school full time would have on your lifestyle, expenses to live (e.g. food, water, gas, rent / mortgage, electric), and the expenses needed to go to school.
