Need Help When Driving Behind Slow Drivers...?

In life when driving everyone falls under 1 of 3 categories, 1 Slow drivers, 2 People who get stuck behind slow drivers and do not mind so drive slow themselves, and of course 3. The people who go insane being stuck behind someone driving 1/5 of the speed limit. I fall under group 3. But I digress, my real question is: "Is it illegal to pass someone on a township road?" In my personal situation I live in Ontario Canada, the speed limit in my town is 40 Km/h and many people only do 10 for no d**n reason, also just curious what group do you fall under?

  1. Sorry I dunno about the driving laws in Canada.  Here in the UK it's perfectly okay to overtake a slow driver if it is safe to do so as long as you do not exceed the speed limit.  Also it's illegal over here to drive too slowly as this is classed as an obstruction to other drivers and is considered dangerous.

I reckon I would have to invent a 4th group to describe me, as in 4.  Got too hacked off being held up by cack drivers so got myself a Golf V6 4motion and burn them all off :-D

  2. yes in Ontario you cannot pass in a town so your going to have lay on the horn and yell your lungs off ahaha, but sorry it is illegal, even when on a highway going through a town you cannot pass.. unless you have a passing lane ( not passing line ), if you don't believe anyone check the local police station or better yet you should do it anyways but i am like  98 % sure you cant, i know you cant in town but the highway in towen part im not 100 % sure, hope i helped

  3. do like i do. i wait until the other lane is open and go around them.

  4. I fall under the third. I usually pass them while flipping them the bird or if I have a full beer, I throw that at their drivers window when I pass. Sometimes I'll pass them and slow down to a crawl so they get what they dish out. I know it may sound like I'm a moron but it always gives me a rush of satisfaction.

  5. I am in the fourth group, the one that drives fast and loves it when guys like you keep the cops off of me.

  6. You are a road rager and a speeder, aren't you?  It's in between the lines of your post, yet so obvious by the gross exaggerations.  I suggest you get mad at people who only do the limit, which you consider the minimum to be driven at all costs in all conditions.

Take a valium, then take a defensive driving course, BEFORE you pass a slow-moving vehicle in impatience and kill somebody.

That being said, it is not illegal to pass a slower vehicle unless there is a solid line down the centre, or a no passing sign.  It IS, however, ILLEGAL to exceed the speed limit while passing.

There is a reason I am still alive after 43 years and close to 2 million miles on the road.

And yes, lardawg54, you are a moron, and a childish one at that.  The last person that tossed a drink at my brother-in-law was surprised to find he had just done it to a police officer, who was actually driving the limit on his way home.

  7. Oh I'm a 3 right there with ya!  I wish we could just run the dumb as ses right off the road.  Believe me, if I were rich, I would just push em out of the way and pay for it later!  I have a road like that by me, the limit is 40 and for some d**n reason everyone wants to do 30 or less.  Why this one road?  Most of the time people speed, but no not on this one stupid road, I have to drive on every day!!!

  8. Not sure about Ontario, but in Alberta it is not illegal to pass unless it is marked that way. However, it can be a ticketable offense to hold up traffic.

I would have to say most of the time I am #3 and I think most people are. Sometimes you've just gotta breath deep and not sweat the small stuff!
