I can always get a wifi signal but it always has a WEP security on it. i know of course you cant get these without finding the password but i see some hot spots with names that seem standard. so is there some sort of "standard" password for these??

  1. The hotspots with "standard names" may very well use "standard security", but there is no way of knowing without speaking to someone who may have been linked to setting it up, or someone who may have successfully hacked it.

These names are for the SSID, so the standard password will be the security encryption as applied to the access point. There is no immediate way to tell whether they are using WEP, WPA, WPA2 and so on.

As for the "admin" or "password" as a password - very unlikely, these are defaults for routers - not access points... If you want to "try it out", then start by using the name of the hotspot or the store that provides the hotspot.

  2. well if it is a standard name then the usual standard password is either

    admin

    or

    password

    or

    no password at all

there is no exact way of knowing
