Need Help With a Thank You Letter?

I'm having trouble writing a thank you letter to my tutor [who is older than me]. I'm not sure what to put where it usually says, Dear (Namegoeshere). In the letter they wrote to me, it said, Dear (myfirstnamehere). So I'm not sure what I put, for the name. Would it be Mr./Ms., their first name, something else? And do I have to put Dear or can I put something else. Sorry if it sounds bad but thanks.

  1. What do you call your tutor when you speak with him (or her)?  Do you call him by his first name, or do you call him Mr. ___.

You can address him in the letter the same way you address him when speaking to him.

To say Dear ___ at the start of a letter is usual and customary (even if you don't know the person and also even if you don't like the person).

  2. Yes, put the word "Dear", since they used it in their letter. Also, what did you call your tutor when he or she was tutoring you? Did you call them by their first name, or did you call them Mr./Ms./Mrs. lastname while he or she was tutoring you? Use the name that you called them.
