  1. 1. I love that I am making such a difference to each child's life.  I am their role model and it is a great honor to get to show them how to share and how to be a good friend.

    2. It's a challenge to get some children to clean up after themselves.

    3. It's my passion.  I love helping children learn new things.  I love that they're not afraid to say whatever is on their mind and they can be really sweet.

    4. I am constantly researching things online and reading teaching forums.   I also ask other teachers for ideas.

  2. 1.  Being a self-employed business owner.  I am in charge and get to set my very own policies.

    2.  Most people don't view their children as a "job".  They become familiar with me and treat me like family rather than an employee.  There is great expense in the running of a child care agency.  Parents, teachers, people in general look around, counting the children, adding in their head, thinking every dollar is profit.  Do the math!  Divide the number of hours by your child care fee, then get back to me!!  I feel parents lack general respect for me as a person or the fact that I have a life outside work.  When I have to call parents, well after closing time to remind them to pick up their children, my cup begins to run on empty.  If only they could all get together and pick one day each week to run late, my life would be better!

    3.  I had two children in child care, my choice was limited.  I felt I could do a better job than the choices in my area.  I opened my child care business eighteen years ago and never looked back.

    4.    Training, lots of training.  Network with other providers.  I stay in close contact with my local Child Care Resource & Referral Center, licensing is my closest contact~ everything has to meet these standards.

  3. 1     being able to see the success i contributed to in the lives of the families i serviced.

2     trying to get other teachers to realize that to just do the minimum wasn't enough.  that you needed to go above and beyond the minimum licensing expectations.

3     to make a difference in the lives of young children.  to try to prevent some of the issues that could be dealt with at a young age instead of in grade school.  to be pro--active on the part of young children and not be reactive later in life.

4     attend seminars and workshops, network with other professionals, volunteer on boards, read

  4. I liked working with the preschool kids. I liked the constructivist approach where kids were exploring and interested in everything! They are so adorable and curious!

Challenges:  Underpaid and underappreciated. Also, it is hard work!! The kids are so dependant on you for everything and it's hard to be on all the time. Also the cattiness in a daycare because of the staff. Typically you get mostly women, uneducated or young or there for the wrong reasons therefore the social skills are not great.

I worked at a daycare because I liked kids and was going to go into teaching therefore needed the experience. Also, the hours were fairly flexible and for the most part it was fun.

When I worked in childcare, I took NAEYC approved classes. I always read up on fun things to do in the class. I changed my lessons every year.  I took my job seriously. Often thats hard because you are so looked down upon but I made it my own little learning classroom and that is what made it last.

  5. Sounds like personal questions. It's not like a test where there is a right or wrong answer. Just think about why you like children, why are you good at working with children? The hardest part of child care for me is disipline. I can't really disipline a child like I would my own and there are so many parents who actually get mad when you tell them you had to put their child on time out. And so many children these days have no respect for adults, so they do whatever they want and expect to get away with it.
