Need Help trying to find info on my Great Grandmother. Her name was Rebeca Jane Moore.?

She married a Perry Clarke Giddings November 15,1879 in Brown County Illinois. I found her listed on the 1880 Census with Perry as her Husband. My sister talked to a cousin and he seemed to believe she was born in Illinois in 1861 and died in 1911. Our cousin said she had gone to the doctor a few days earlier and that Rebecca commited suicide when my Grandmother Bertha M. Giddings was around 18 years old. Her husband Perry had left her many time in their marriage and he had taken their 3 older living children with him when he left. These children would have been Clarence Giddings, Arthur Giddings, and a Ethel Louise Giddings who married a man by the last name Peters. I have found some things on these 3 children. But nothing at all on Rebecca Jane Moore Giddings. She is supposed to be Buried around Rushville Illinois some where. I have also been told that Rebecca's mother also committed suicide at a young age. But we can not find who her parents were. Any help would be great.

  1. Go to FamilySearch.org

I've located a lot of my dads family that I knew little about, etc. Its free and you can even download a program to start building your genealogy history. Its part of the Latter Day Saints and we know they do a lot of genealogy research.

    Also, Myheritage.com

I use this one too, the program has smartmatches and if another member has entered your relatives information you will be able to view the information and contact this person if you chose.

Both are good resources. Good Luck!

  2. You can post your query on rootsweb.com for free; it's owned by ancestry.com and is a question and answer forum.

Another option is to contact the public library(s), in Rushville, Illinois (or the surrounding towns/cities), for info on a list of the older local cemeteries in the area(s) and who is buried in them.

  3. Ancestry.com has your great grandmother listed as Rebeca Giddings in the 1880 census, but that's all I have been able to find:

    Rebeca Giddings

Home in 1880: Pea Ridge, Brown, Illinois

    Age: 18

    abt 1862

    Wife

    Perry C.

    Keeping House

    Married

    White

    Female

    Birthplace: Illinois

    Brthplace of father: unknown

    Birthplace of mother: unknown

All the entries for Rebeca Jane Moore on Ancestry.com didn't give any information other than her name and the fact that she was the wife of Perry C. Giddings and the mother of Bertha M. Giddings.  I sorry I couldn't be of any further help.

  6. Have you looked in the 1870 census?  She should be listed with her parents.  You can also try the local newspaper, which may have her obituary in its files.  The county library and hsitorical society may also have back newspaper files or excerpts.
