  1. goto the apple site, go to the ipod section. you need to reformat the ipod with the most updated software. or if you have itunes open, you should be able to search for devices, then follow the steps to reformat the ipod.

  2. You need to download I-tunes.  Go on apple.com and go from there.

  3. Well, you need iTunes of course.

Sometimes that happens to me, like nothing will show up when I plug it in. When you plug it in, wiggle the USB port a little. One time I had to turn on my iPod in order for it to work.

Try getting a new USB port if nothing else works,

  4. DOWNLOAD ITUNES FROM APPLE.COM

then make sure the itunes download sees that your ipod is plugged in. after that, make sure the songs on the ipod are all uploaded to your itunes librayry. after that go to music, and look through the songs. you'll see checks next to them. the songs you want to get rid of, click on the checkboxes so the checks will go away, then go back to the what should say your name or your aunts name. ex: rons ipod. click on that, clikc on music, click sync.

sorry if its a little confusing but its complicated to explain.

hope that helps, if u still need help, e-mail me
