  1. If you wish, just do not let what ever you believe in cause you to legislate your morality or attempt to spread willful ignorance through the education system.

    Edit:

If I understand "Pant's" comment right, he's relating Agnostic deism to Pascal's wager because it is a "shotgun" approach to belief or that it comes off as a belief just in case.

As for actually believing in some sort of deity or deities, there simply is no evidence for any, and I certainly can not make myself believe "just to give it a shot."

  2. I don't believe in a deist god for the reasons I describe in this question:

    ____

  3. to believe in something you have to be convinced that that is the way. whatever suits you really.

  4. Just stay an atheist, that'll free up your time to enjoy other hobbies.  You're too smart to believe in the supernatural, stick to your instincts and be an intelligent atheist.

  5. Why use the word god to represent an unknown universal energy?  All that does is confuse the issue.  Call it energy, call it unknown energy if you like, but calling it god just seems like an attempt to avoid the atheist label.

  6. I don't really get it how "giving it a shot" relates to "believing in it". I think you should maintain a critical mind. If "believing" means giving up doubt and critical analysis, then please don't believe.

  7. I think ultimately you must believe in whatever agrees with your own reason and common sense. :)

  8. Whatever you're comfortable with, is all that matters.

  9. Make like me :

Believe in nothing :) and u can watch this movie to see actually what is religions ..

i can tell you that i have more than 5 years from when i stop believe in something and is more good now ...

    regards

  10. I don't think Atheists are the best group to ask for this opinion.  As an Atheist myself, I'd tell you to examine why you'd want to beleive in any sort of creator or divine power.  Most people embrace the idea of a divine spirit/ruler/whatever because it makes them feel more comfortable about life--or more accurately, death.  The trouble with reality is that it doesn't care what you or anyone else thinks about it:  It is what it is.  Rather than create an imaginary cushion, I think it's better to make peace with what is.

  11. whatever floats your boat

  12. I think you should never arbitrarily believe in anything just because it seems to make sense. Don't pigeon hole yourself, keep an open mind and don't set your beliefs in stone.

  13. Agnostic deism sounds an awful lot like Pascal's Wager... why would you want to try that...

Perhaps just being agnostic would be wise until you have a better idea of what you believe.

Edit:  I hope this didn't offend you.  When I read agnostic deist, it sounds like a "just in case" kind of belief system.   The I-don't-know-but-I'll-give-it-a-shot kind of thing.   Please forgive me if I misunderstand what you are saying...

A lot of folks think I'm a polytheist when I say I'm a pantheist... LOL... so I know how it feels to be misunderstood...

Edit 2:  I loved that definition from Dawkins!!!  "sexed up atheist"  I felt so flattered... LOL

  14. no

  15. Whatever you want to do.

But this might be something that only lasts like a week.

That happened to me once; a book "convinced" me to be a Christian, and then a week later I realized how stupid I was being.

    Just an example..lol.

But again, believe in what you want to believe.

  16. why not - I know I moan about various religions (mostly organised religion), but whatever you want to believe in is your business nothing to do with anybody else. If you believe in it then you believe in it, hope it makes you happy x

Realistically none of us no the truth about that kind of stuff - we all just base our decision on what we think and feel about it.
